REVIEW: Bon Vivant

Bon Vivant

75-77 Marchmont St, Kings Cross, London, WC1N 1AP

 The Vibes:

Bon Vivant is a chic dining spot that promises to help Londoners fall in love with France all over again. This restaurant is all about classical French dinning with a modern twist serving well-executed dishes paired with a glorious list of French grapes and a cheeky cocktail or two.

What we Ate:

Choose your dishes wisely from rich appetisers to scrumptious mains and desserts – they all sound and look amazing!

Entrée; We started off the night with a delicious salmon marinee, smoked salmon coupled with crème fraîche and pickled vegetables.

When sampling French cuisine how could we skip out on some high-quality cheese – we tried a delicious salade de chèvre chaud with goat cheese, lardons and candied walnuts, all nested in a healthy salad of course. Finally, we dug into our favourite delicacy – cured meats paired with potatoes and cornichons served on their famous planche de charcuterie.

Plat Principal; The perfect balance of mild and spicy – fish paired with smoky chorizo. This subtle-flavoured tender plaice was perfectly seasoned with chorizo chunks, crispy fresh samphire and a creamy buttered sauce.

A rich savoury plate, our server recommended the flat iron steak or the bavette as romantically pronounced by him! This was served with truffle creamed spinach and confic garlic shallots swimming in a rich red wine jus. A rustic dish but with a fine dining finesse.

Dessert: To end the night we sampled some chocolate truffles and a beautiful melting lava cake. We could hardly find room for the richness of the chocolate, but accompanied with a dessert wine it made us never want to leave.

What We Drank:

Do not leave without trying the Dirty Pink; a rich raspberry liqueur paired with gin for that slight after work buzz we all love to enjoy. Its creamy texture comes from fluffy egg whites, and it is also quite refreshing with the added splash of lemon juice. A perfect way to start your meal. Afterwards we had to switch to the recommended wine pairings for our meals, as fine French wines are a delicacy that should not be missed.

We Recommend:

The salmon marinee was by bar far our favourite dish. The smoked fish was undoubtedly super fresh and paired with fine home-made French bread and crème fraîche it really was the perfectly balanced meal we would order for brunch.

Our Thoughts:

The rich traditional French dishes with a modern twist are perfect for any foodie in search of some exquisite cuisine. The elegant interior, traditionally dressed servers in stripes and unique cutlery and glasses all make you feel as if you’ve just taken a vacation.  Spoil your guest and treat them to an authentic experience which offers a sensational private dining experience from start to finish – perfect for any gathering or celebration.
