REVIEW: MeaTea at Heliot Steak House

Heliot Steak House, the award-winning steak* restaurant located inside The Hippodrome, launched its MeaTeä – a meaty twist on the traditional afternoon tea! The perfect way to while away an afternoon in London’s West End, the MeaTea includes three tiers of meat-laden treats and scrumptious sweets paired with a selection of classic teas and a specially created cocktail, wine or beer flight.

We visited Heliot Steak house on a Saturday to experience the wonderfully unique MeaTea! Expect attentive and welcoming staff along with the best quality ingredients by the renowned London steak house.

Priced at £35 per person, the MeaTea is excellent value and celebrates the restaurant’s signature ingredient, 28-day aged USDA prime steak, alongside a host of other meaty delights. The middle tier of the afternoon tea is focused on beef and includes USDA sliders with truffle sauce (bite sized burgers from heaven!) USDA grilled polpette with a spicy tomato sauce and USDA sirloin served on mini Yorkshire puddings with a red wine jus. Further meaty morsels on the menu are quirky chicken lollipops with peri peri sauce, grilled chicken with pitta bread & avocado, chicken rolls with lemon thyme sauce.

My favouite had to be the grilled lamb cutlets marinated with rosemary which were completely melt in the month!

Those with a sweet tooth, like myself! will not be disappointed by the selection of sweets also on offer, including summer fruit tartlets with mascarpone cheese, chocolate Kahlua tarts and a classic Victoria sponge with strawberry marmalade.

As you have guessed so far, this is not your average afternoon Tea!

The MeaTea is served with the choice of a cocktail, beer or wine flight – a tasting of three drinks chosen specially to match each tier of the tea – as well as a large selection of English Breakfast and fruit teas. The cocktail flight includes three summer-focused drinks; the Warm Up Sip, a combination of vodka, bergamot liqueur, maraschino liqueur & fresh lemon juice; the Smoky Jamboree, a base of smoked vodka with spiced rum, fresh lime juice, mint, raspberry jam & earl grey tea; and the Polly Pop, whisky with Apple Jack, apple juice, ginger liqueur & white chocolate liqueur. Served up in danty glass jars, these cocktails are the perfect way to start you Sturday in Londons West End.

Perfer beer to pair with your afternoon tea? No worries! the beer flight includes three beers from around the world – referencing London, Barcelona and New York. The wine flight is also sourced from a variety of countries and offers a decilous glass of sparkling Moscato, a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a glass of Malbec to compliment those meaty bites!

The MeaTea at Heliot Steak House is available to book from the beginning of June and will be served on Saturdays and Sunday from11.30am to 3.45pm. Guests have the choice of enjoying their MeaTea in Heliot Steak House or in the nearby stylish Heliot Lounge, located on the first floor of the historic Hippodrome building with views over Leicester Square.

Heliot Steak House provides a unique dining experience in the heart of London, enjoying a rare view overlooking the casino gaming floor and is a great a place to relax and enjoy a meal in a fun environment followed by a show in the 180-seat cabaret theatre. We cannot recommend this experience more, so make sure to visit Heliot Steak House before the summer is out!
