Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals opens in Fitzrovia

This summer a new bar will bring a touch of plant life to Fitzrovia. Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals will take guests on a sensory journey to an enchanted land of plants, herbs and spices that intrepid traveller, Phileas Fogg has brought back from his Around the World in 80 Days voyage. Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals is the latest project from Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling’s Inception Group, and will showcase the fruits of Mr Fogg’s travels across two floors of exotic flora and fauna.

Located on the corner of Newman Street and Goodge Street, Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals will showcase a magnificent display of the explorer’s botanical acquisitions and eccentric souvenirs of his global adventures. A perfect complement to the exquisite Mayfair Mr Fogg’ Residence, the space will be flooded with natural light with large sash windows and ceilings high enough for the tallest of trees, creating a sense of bright airiness throughout.

From the moment they arrive, guests will leave the bustling streets behind them and enter a verdant Victorian paradise. The downstairs area will feature an intimate seating area shrouded in plants, plenty of hanging ivy and a beautifully crafted handmade oak wooden bar surrounded by floriferous foliage. Colourful greenery from the furthest reaches of the globe and antique horticultural prints will proudly adorn the richly lacquered wood panelling.

Mr Fogg’s adventurous team have excelled themselves again in creating two unforgettable drinking experiences across both floors. The downstairs cocktail menu will showcase Mr Fogg’s most unusual botanical finds with Amazonian plants, luscious leaves and tongue-tingling spices just some of the flavours guests will be able to explore and experiment with.

Head upstairs and discover a more intimate cocktail experience: The Secret Language of Flowers Menu. Inspired by the Victorian tradition of expressing secret emotions through the giving of certain flowers, each drink will represent a different flower and feeling, from love to forgiveness. Intrepid guests can indulge inside Mr Fogg’s Glass House, a place of invention and exploration. The Glass House, complete with an endless array of experimental Kilner jar infusions to choose from, will be available to hire for everything from floral cocktail master classes to guided tasting parties.

Heavenly herbaceous drinks will include; Flight of the Hummingbird, guaranteed to have guests all a flutter with its blend of Bacardi Carta Blanca, Aperol, raspberry, spiced pineapple, celery, citrus and egg white and Cherry Blossom, a heady mix of Star of Bombay gin, Evangelista Ratafia, almond, pineapple, falernum, lime and Sakura tea foam.

Serving up an array of floral themed fayre, Mr Fogg’s household staff will treat guests to miniature marvels of; Confit chicken & pine nut croquettes with roasted chicken gravy & chives, filling fodder such as; Sweet potato fries loaded with crispy lamb, orange mayo, feta, confit onion & spiced sesame, Sweet corn & chickpea fritters with halloumi and basil yogurt as well as Smoked trout served with a cucumber salad, juniper berry sour cream & spiced soda bread. Those looking for a sweet treat can indulge in Mr Fogg’s Honey Crumpets, topped with whipped honey butter and rosemary honeycomb or Drunken Pineapple Truffles topped with coconut.

Mr Fogg’s House of Botanicals will feature grand floor to ceiling French doors, opening out on to the outdoor seating area complete with dainty Victorian furniture, the perfect spot for an al fresco drinking adventure underneath the stars. The entrance will also feature an eye-catching evergreen exterior of beautiful blooms and leaves, changing in harmony with the seasons. Co-founder Charlie Gilkes says of the project: “It’s been five years since we opened our first Mr Fogg’s, and we’re thrilled to add a fourth venue to the Mr Fogg’s Collection.”
