At M by Montcalm
151-157 City Road

Plate follows the belief in the importance of taking time to share a meal with family and friends, to break bread together and catch up. Using the highest quality local and seasonal ingredients to create a menu of fresh flavour-packed plates – some to share and some to enjoy yourself, Plate is a welcoming restaurant with open arms.

The Vibes?

Chef and owner Arnaud Stevens is a classically trained chef and passionate restaurateur. At Plate Arnaud has built a team of passionate and creative staff who live to cook and create an environment that is warm, earthy and organic where people relax undisturbed whilst they eat and talk.

We ate?

The afternoon tea consisted of  Sandwhiches, Butter milk scones and sweets. The sandwiches consisted of a sweet pastry style bread, with a selection of flavours;

-Chapel & Swan smoked salmon with creme fraiche & chives,
-Marinated beef tomato, oregano, basil pesto & goats cheese
-Coronation chicken with baby gem & apricot

The sandwiches were a great twist on some classic British sandwiches, full of flavour, light and delicate.

We then had some of the lovely buttermilk scones, with the choice of raisins or plain, served with strawberry preserve and clotted cream. The scones were fluffy, warm and light and could not fault them in any way.

The last layer of the afternoon tea serving was full of delicious treats, from Lemon drizzle cake, lemon icing, Dark chocolate delice, Passion fruit meringue Eclair, a mixture of tropical, vibrant and Dark flavours.

Our Thoughts?

With such a great location and view with expansive windows surrounding the restaurant, a great place to sit and watch bustling old street whilst enjoying a contemporary take on the afternoon tea.
