This July sees the opening of The Stratford Brasserie within the award-winning The Stratford. The new all-day dining restaurant will provide an elevated offering within the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, unlike anything else in the area. The new Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed 42-storey tower is the vision of Harry Handelsman, who has pioneered new districts in London for almost three decades. Harry is credited with making Clerkenwell cool, kick starting the King’s Cross rejuvenation by restoring the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel and, together with Andre Balazs, making
Marylebone fashionable with the opening of Chiltern Firehouse.
The Stratford has been a 10-year labour of love for Harry, with a vision to redefine high-rise living by encouraging a vertical community. Located at the building’s entrance, The Stratford Brasserie will act as a social hub for The Stratford Hotel & Lofts, which integrates short and long-term stays.
The open bar and kitchen will run under the creative direction of Ben Harrington, formerly of Soho House Group and Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s. Ben’s accessible menu will centre on light sharing dishes using seasonal British ingredients. At breakfast, guests can expect homemade crumpets and Acai bowls (£10). Snacks (£4) will include grilled romero pepper with salsa verde & sourdough and Taramasalata with radish and seaweed salt. Pizzas (£10 – £14) from The Brasserie’s outdoor wood oven will be served all day, alongside salads and small plates. At dinner, traditional brasserie fare such as schnitzel, risotto and burgers will be offered alongside dishes of chopped Cornish bream, smoked crème fraîche, pickled celery and rye (£9) and preserved lemon and oregano whole roasted chicken (£38), followed by grilled peach bake alaska (£14 for 2).
Sharing The Stratford’s ground floor with a spectacular triple-height lobby and ten-metre high fireplace, The Stratford Brasserie will have a casual yet elegant vibe which extends from breakfast through to late night drinks. Designed by Space Copenhagen (the team behind NOMA and 11 Howard in New York), interiors will feature softly padded leather chairs and statement wooden benches and tables. Guests will be encouraged to use the space fluidly; to meet for coffee and fresh juices, to work, relax and dine throughout the entire ground floor and terrace. Outdoor seating is heated and sheltered by a lush pergola, alongside an outdoor bar, fireplace and pizza oven.
