Garlic and shots

In the heart of Soho, just off Old Compton St, this heavily Gothic styled bar doesn’t rise from the previous evenings death till late evening after the other pubs in the area have closed. Most of the night crawlers creep down from equally gothic pubs such as The Intrepid Fox (now closed) round the corner to continue their drinking.

Upstairs will become cozy as the midnight hour approaches, but fear not you can always brave the basement, candle lit only it’s decked out all Goth like, with skulls, spider webs and its very own crypt. (There’s also a bar downstairs for those of you too lazy to climb back up.) Or you can sit out in the back beer garden, with canopy and outdoor heaters the elements shouldn’t disturb you too much.

Food is available at Garlic and Shots, with the bar staffs recommendation being the aptly named ‘Vampire steak with a pepper sauce, with potatoes + garlic’ at £14.50. Kinda Gothic man. Shots are £2.50 – sounds pricy but by the time you rock into this place you’ll be lining them up.

Paul.A.Young

Between the Soho and Islington Shops, Paul.a.young fine chocolates has put on some special Halloween chocolates for the season. They’ll have Three Spooky White Chocolate Skulls, White chocolate Pumpkin Lollipops with Dark Chocolate Pearls and if you’re going all-out, dark chocolate Haunted House. And on top of that, there are orange splattered Halloween Caramels and his famous pumpkin pie truffle is returning.

Alcotraz, Moonshine Saloon, and Pirates of the Hidden Spirit

The Jack Cassidy experience begins with the pirates of the hidden spirit experience, where you must steal the treasure for Cassidy. Once you have joined his gang, you may move on to the moonshine saloon where the Sherif suspects you of collaborating with him. Although not specific to halloween, the Alcotraz immersive cocktail bar encourages you to experience the world of the convicted, halloween or not. While wearing an orange jumpsuit suit, and smuggling alcohol past the warden you enter a whole new world as you try and accomplish your mission; Deliver alcohol to Jack who has been sentenced to life in prison!

London Month of the Dead

The city’s most morbid festival has been resurrected for another year, promising mystical talks, events and workshops held in various unsettling locations around London. This year, you can go to a talk on the apocalypse; take a guided tour through the catacombs of Nunhead Cemetery; hear why the Victorians were so keen on post-mortem photography; learn about the execution sites of London; watch magic lantern shows and candlelit concerts; and drink a gin cocktail or two to help you through it all.

Journey To The Underworld

So to save you any hassle getting into Satan’s playground, the people at Funicular Productions are going to take you there by train. It’s the return of their second immersive, locomotive-based supper club experience (their other shows, the Murdér Express and The Jewel of The Empire, were also set on a steam engine), and they’ve recruited Masterchef: The Professionals finalist Louisa Ellis to feed you onboard… READ MORE

Candlelight Club’s Halloween Ball

When it comes to going out, you can’t beat a good candle.

So a club entirely filled with them should hold some merit when it comes to a decent evening. And we’re happy to report that The Candlelight Club provides exactly that. And maybe a little bit more. You see, it’s an ever-moving, jazz-fuelled, ’20s-style, raucously entertaining shindig taking place in secret – and surprisingly large – venues throughout the capital which they organisers fill with candles as the (almost) sole source of illumination.

Only this Halloween, those candles will be mostly housed in pumpkins.

Midnight Apothecary Halloween Spooktacular

Apothecaries already sound kind of spooky. Midnight Apothecaries, doubly so. And for this Halloween special, the botanical cocktail gardeners on the roof of the Brunel Museum will be throwing incredibly carved pumpkin lanterns, firepits, complimentary toasted marshmallows, apple bobbing, Halloween-themed cocktails, and “strange blue fire” into the mix.

The Dark Circus Party

Although it is sadly not the coolest political movement of all time, the Dark Circus Party is actually something slightly better – a massively grand, atmospheric, eye-poppingly cool Halloween party run by the folks at Bourne and Hollingsworth, and set inside a ‘haunted’ big top tent. It’ll feature trapeze acts, sideshow oddities, fire breathing, sword swallowing, snake charmers, lion tamers, ring masters, cocktails, and probably you.
