REVIEW: Ye Olde Bell

What?

Ye Olde Bell is an independently owned 59 room country hotel dating back to the 17th Century and now a prestigious AA Four-Star Rosette hotel.

Where?

Located on the borders of Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Close to National Trust Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest and the market towns of Retford, Bawtry and Newark and the Cathedral City of Lincoln.

Address: Barnby Moor, Retford, Nottinghamshire, DN22 8QS

The Vibes?

Artfully combining striking contemporary interiors and luxurious modern comforts with all the history and character you’d expect from the remarkable building, to offer a calming retreat from the stresses of daily life.

Stay

With a flair for design, independent owners Paul and Hilary Levack have passionately restored the hotel’s 59 rooms, suites and lodges. Think oak panelling and antique furniture; leaded windows and sparkling chandeliers. Combining stunning original features with elegant contemporary design, Ye Olde Bell makes a unique and unforgettable destination.

Spa

The new multi-million pound spa, which has just been awarded 5 bubbles by the Good Spa Guide, features ten spa experiences, indoor-outdoor, vitality pool, an extensive range of treatments and bespoke therapies, Herb Garden Brasserie, outdoor relaxation areas with alpine lodges and hair and beauty salon. The Stonebath, one of only 3 within the UK, which features a heated oven and cold water cauldron, creates a theatrical outpour of hydrating steam when the mineral stones are lifted from the oven into the cold water.

Cuisine

Ye Olde Bell Hotel offers a host of dining options from fine dining to bistro to banquet.

Their unique location on the border of three counties gives their Head chef and his talented team first-hand access to outstanding produce from Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. This, combined with their outstanding creativity in the kitchen, has secured the hotel’s AA Rosette.Dine in style in our opulent Restaurant Bar 1650 or enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our St Leger Bistro-by-the-Bar.

Our Thoughts?

1650 Restaurant was definitely highlight with beautifully presented dishes.

We had crab and goat’s cheese for starters and lamb for mains.

The Spa speaks for itself as soon as you walk through the doors.

We started off with a facial to start us up for the day.

We then went down to the SPA which features different types of Spa experiences from a Stonebath Sauna to a Snowstorm experience. You will have a lot of fun going around and trying them out while then relaxing in their vitality pool.

We loved our experience here! Perfect for bonding Spa Days for groups!
